Mystic Light è un progetto nato nel 2015, ma che vive da sempre nel sentire figurativo dei due fotografi torinesi Patrizia Piga e Flavio Catalano. Torinesi, sebbene qualcosa di fiammingo in qualche modo, scorra nel loro sangue, quasi come un’eredità karmica.
Sin dalle loro prime foto pubblicitarie, rivolte sempre e solo al food, si era rivelato questo modo di vedere la luce, quel disporre gli oggetti come in uno still life caravaggesco.Così, sia che venga utilizzata la luce delle lampade da studio sia che si faccia uso solo della luce di una finestra, l’impressione è sempre di un raggio avvolgente, uno solo, laterale, che insieme alla sua ombra, avvolge tutto ciò che c’è.
Luce Mistica, come in un quadro o un affresco di un luogo sacro, dove ineluttabile si fa sentire la presenza di qualcosa che non è solo materiale, e che fa rivivere l’invisibile anche negli oggetti.

“These images are stunning. They represent such a specific mood that it is impossible to not be immediately transported by their magnetic aura. The images certainly evoke the style of 17th and 18th century still-life painting of Northern Europe, but even for the person who does not see that reference, it is no matter. The work sustains its meaning without needing to be referential. Still-life photography is a neglected category so it is nice to see it thriving in your work.
I think when printed, these images should be as large as the paintings that inspire them. There is something magical about falling into the details you obviously carefully attend to. For example, the feather in the basket in #7. Or the various undulating folds of the cloth in #8. These are moments of perfection. Compositionally the images are a delight, very well-balanced… ”
